About
Who We Are
Our Story
Spirix is a youth-led dance and arts collective based in the Wigan Borough.
A multi-faceted, trailblazing arts organisation with foundations in dance, we challenge what performing arts can be at every level. This means giving our young creatives empowering projects to lead, pursuing social change at community, town, and borough level, and shattering traditional barriers with our inclusive approach to movement participation.
From our humble beginnings almost a decade ago, the story of Spirix Collective is rich with progress and impact.

Our Purpose
To show young people - through real creative experiences and opportunities - that they can create, they can perform, and they can lead.
Our Mission
To provide the safe space, professional development, and life-changing project opportunities to turn young people’s dreams into practical skills for a life of movement.
Our Vision
To break down barriers to inclusivity and accessibility. No matter who you are, no natter your experience - you are welcome here at Spirix.
Spirix’s foundations are in WigLe Dance CIC, founded by Amy Hodgson in 2017 with the aim of breaking down barriers in dance. At it’s core, WigLe Dance CIC was built to provide affordable, accessible dance classes and development for young people across Wigan and Leigh.
We soon realised the need was larger than we first thought - young people turned up from all corners of our community to fill up school halls, libraries, and public spaces.
Our Timeline
The Journey So Far
2017
2019
2023
Fast forward a couple of years, and WigLe was fast gaining a borough-wide reputation in Wigan as the go-to place for dance. From street to contemporary, young adults to mini classes, the word was out that WigLe is inclusive and high-quality.
Backed by Wigan Council and major funders, we grew fast, launching the Wigan Borough Dance Festival, creating the Wigan Dance Network, and linking up with 75+ schools a year.
It was at the time we refined our progression paths, saw our students deliver amazing performances , and were able to map that directly to our development eco system.
We won awards, such as the Young People’s Dance Champion Award in 2022, and put ourselves on the map regionally at an organisational level.
In 2026, Spirix Studios opened: a new youth arts venue in the heart of Leigh town centre. The space was created with and for young people, offering a welcoming home for dance, creativity, and collaboration. Spirix Studios is a space that is rooted in an authentic youth voice and that cultivates community connection.
From weekly dance classes and a physical space for social connection, to acting as a performance space and events venue, Spirix Studios is a hub at the heart of Leigh but our reach goes much further.
2025
In 2025, WigLe Dance became Spirix - named after the mythical bird symbolising freedom, fearlessness, and forward motion. Still rooted in our original values, Spirix strengthens and expands our mission: to provide performing arts as a tool for change, led by young people.
